2/27/14 7-9PM Wired 24/7: How Technology is Affecting Kids' Brains and Development presented by William Stixrud Ph.D. William R. Stixrud, Ph.D., a clinical neuropsychologist, will summarize what is known about how television, video games, the Internet, cell phones, and multi-tasking are influencing children’s development and the functioning of families. Suggestions will be offered to parents for supervising children’s technology and helping kids become responsible users of the technology they love. Dr. Stixrud will also address how schools can educate students who have short attention spans, are quick to boredom, display immature self-regulation skills, and experience unprecedented levels of anxiety. The keynote presentation will be delivered by Ellen Galinsky, early childhood expert, president of Families and Work Institute and author of Mind in the Making. Ellen’s focus is on promoting life skills, based on Executive Functions of the brain. FCPS staff and guest speakers Ann Dolin, Cathi Cohen, Kirk Martin, Dr. David Black, Dr. Samantha Hollins, Joyce Sharp and Dr. Joyce Cooper-Kahn will also present a variety of workshops for families and educators of students who receive special education services in Fairfax County Public Schools.
