3/1/14 8AM-2PM The 9th Annual Special Education Conference: Parents + Educators + Students = Success presented by Fairfax County Public School. The keynote presentation will be delivered by Ellen Galinsky, early childhood expert, president of Families and Work Institute and author of Mind in the Making. Ellen’s focus is on promoting life skills, based on Executive Functions of the brain. 4/3/14 through 5/15/14  Parent to Parent Online Webinar presented by CHADD.  This seven-session class includes a state-of-the-art curriculum with the training provided by an experienced, certified Parent to Parent Teacher. Each of the weekly two-hour sessions covers an area of information absolutely essential to the successful management of ADHD. And best of all, the training is from a parent's perspective, brought to you by experts who have faced the same struggles, questions, and challenges you face. In addition to the classes you will receive a Parent to Parent Workbook full of helpful articles, tips and worksheets to use in your own family. 

 

4/23/14 and 4/30/14 7:00PM-9:00PM Managing Behaviors in Young Children presented by Dr. Polly Panitz, Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician.  This class of for paretns of children ages 2 - 10 years old.  This 2 part class will teach about the developmental factors that contribute to behaviors, help you better understand why the behaviors occur, and will teach specific strategies.  Location is 10461 White Granite Dr., Oakton, VA.  To register email Rosemary James at rjames@capitalareapediatrics.com

Dyslexia Workshop for Parents

Syphax Education Center2110 Washington Boulevard, Rooms 101/103, Arlington, VA  22207.  Presented by Ms. Meg Davis, Special Education Coordinator, and Dr. Kelly Krug, Extended Instruction Specialist, this session will:
   • define dyslexia,  and identify characteristics of dyslexia
   • describe various reading methods and programs, as well as assistive technology
   • discuss how parents can seek support for their children at school
   • review the Intervention Assistance Team (IAT) and Special Education processes in Arlington Public Schools
   • provide parents with tips and strategies for working with their children at home.
